first meal of the season

the first meal was an intimate meal for four. i made toasted BLT's on rye with "elman's" dill pickles and homemade red onion pickle. i made tomato bean soup as well. tonight we will dine on roast chicken, roast yukon gold potatoes, broccoli and shrooms, baked butternut squash, a simple green salad and probably ice cream for dessert. i am not making breakfast this week as there are so few people in camp right now but will be making lunches and dinners for the rest of the week. yesterday i went to town with F-E. i met the driver from sysco, the manager from sunspun and the manager at frosted foods. i was glad to meet with them and ask about certain products i want to order such as my favourite yogurt, different kinds of meat products and produce. F-E and i managed to cram in all the orders and shopping we had to pick up in k-town. a very full suburban indeed. we were a bit trepedatious about driving on the camp road as we bottomed out on one of the washouts on our way out in the morning and on the way back we had considerably more weight on board. our worries were for naught as we returned to camp without incident. after unloading the three food orders i was quite happy to go to the cabin and put my feet up.

organizing and cleaning

it has been a week of organizing and cleaning the kitchen and dining room. gladly i am at least halfway done as i only have one more week before the campers arrive in force. once all is spic and span i'll take photos and post them so you will see where the work of feeding the campers takes place. i am slowly getting the food ordering in hand. still a few items that need to be sourced but all in all i'll be ready next week with a fully stocked larder.

homeagain, homeagain jiggity jig

well here we are again for an amazing season of great food and conversation. i'll be posting the weekly menus and of course sharing recipes. no guarantees the recipes will work. like me you will just have to jump and hope for the best!
